Methodology

The EVOO Index is a weekly weighted average of official wholesale olive oil prices published by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) and the European Commission (DG AGRI), covering Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal, expressed in both €/litre and €/100 kg.

Sources

  • Extra virgin olive oil: Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) origin price reports.
  • Virgin, lampante, refined and pomace: European Commission DG AGRI olive oil market price API.

No price on this site is estimated, modelled or interpolated from our side. When a source does not publish, the page states that data is unavailable rather than showing a substitute figure.

Frequency

Both sources publish weekly. The index is refreshed as soon as the new week is available, and every page shows the exact reference week of the figures displayed.

Calculation

The index is a production-weighted average of the national origin prices for the grade in question. When a country does not publish a price in a given week, the previous week's published value is carried forward so the index is not distorted by a missing observation; the index is then recomputed from the completed set of country prices.

Units

Official prices are quoted in €/100 kg. Conversion to €/litre uses an olive oil density of 0.92 kg/L: €/L = €/100 kg × 0.92 / 100. Both units are available through the global unit toggle.

Scope and limits

All figures are wholesale (origin) prices at producer, mill and cooperative level — not supermarket retail prices. Coverage depends on what each member state reports to DG AGRI, so some grades are published for fewer countries than others.
